Company Description: The Rhode Island Blood Center was founded in 1979 as a non-profit community blood center. Our goal is to ensure that all Rhode Islanders have immediate access to a safe and plentiful blood supply. Our Main Donor Center is located at 405 Promenade Street in Providence, Rhode Island. We have long-standing relationships with organizations in the business, civic, religious and community sectors. The sponsorship of blood drives by these organizations helps make blood donation convenient and comfortable. Approximately 240 to 280 units of blood must be collected each day to meet the needs of patients in our community. The Blood Center is much more than just a blood collection organization or blood bank. Our more than 375 employees are involved in education, the National Marrow Donor Program, DNA testing, parentage testing, tissue typing, red cell typing and various patient treatment programs at local hospitals. We are also involved in a variety of local and national research programs in an effort to improve all aspects of the blood banking industry. The Rhode Island Blood Center is dedicated to steady growth and improvement in our community blood program.
